A robot (ロボット, robotto) is a generic term often used to refer to humanoid combat vehicles, such as Mazinger Z as well as less frequently traditional autonomous machines like the Mechanical Beasts.
Overview[]
Robots have complex control schemes composed of handlers, pedals, levers, and buttons that require specialized training to be operated properly. Despite requiring manual input to operate, Sayaka and Koji once noted that their respective machines were surprisingly capable of moving according to their thoughts. [1] Moreover, the robots are often depicted expressing body language that mirrors their pilots' emotions.[2]

Trivia[]
- In the West, manned robots are commonly referred to across various media as 'mechas.' However, in anime-inspired media, they are most frequently known as robots, machines, or by setting-specific names (like the Knightmare Frames from Code Geass, the Mobile Suits from Gundam, or the Gunmen from Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann).
- Robots are regularly addressed or referred to by name as if they were a person. Likewise, they are treated as companions instead of regular machinery, often being mourned by their pilots whenever they are damaged or destroyed. [3]
