Mazinkaiser (マジンカイザー Majinkaizā) is a robot created by Juzo Kabuto and piloted by Koji Kabuto. He became Koji’s de facto robot and primary fighting unit for the Photon Power Laboratory after Mazinger Z was captured and modified by Dr. Hell.
Backstory[]
Mazinkaiser is a powerful super robot secretly created by Dr. Juzo Kabuto, the grandfather of Koji Kabuto, in anticipation of increasingly dangerous threats. Developed in secret as a successor to Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger, Mazinkaiser was designed to be the ultimate weapon, surpassing both predecessors in power and durability.
Appearance[]
Mazinkaiser is taller than his predecessors by a few meters. It also sports a heavily armored appearance and a more human-esque body. The chest features an emblem with the letter Z.
Technological Overview[]
Mazinkaiser represents a significant technological leap over his predecessors, incorporating advancements that make him the most formidable machines of his kind. Constructed from the groundbreaking Super Alloy New Zα, Mazinkaiser boasts exceptional durability—this advanced alloy, derived from Japanium, can withstand extreme conditions that would compromise other Mazinger models. His resilience was showcased when he survived a fall from Earth's orbit to the surface entirely unscathed.
Mazinkaiser’s armament includes enhanced versions of classic weapons used by other Mazinger robots, but each one is considerably upgraded in terms of power and effectiveness. For instance, his Fire Blaster surpasses the standard Breast Fire, unleashing concentrated thermal energy that can turn even the Mycenaean Warrior Beasts into piles of melted metal in instants. Likewise, the Turbo Smasher Punch amplifies the power of the Rocket Punch, delivering enough force to obliterate rival machiens.
In the brief encounter against Ashura Mazinger and Great Mazinger, Mazinkaiser’s superiority over the previous models was evident as neither could damage him with nor withstand his attacks.

- Koshiryoku (Photon Power) Beam: Mazinkaiser unleashes pure Photonic Energy in the form of beams from his eyes.
- Rust Tornado: Mazinkaiser fires a trio of high-power tornadoes from his mouth grill, releasing corrosive particles within the winds.
- Giganto Missile: Mazinkaiser launches a devastating missile from his torso.
- Turbo Smasher Punch: Mazinkaiser fires his forearm spinning at extremely high speed at his opponents to devastating efect.
- Fire Blaster: The chest fin acts as a heat sink for Mazinkaiser's Photonic Energy reactor, allowing him to release thermal energy in a devastating beam. The Fire Blaster is capable of instantly melting Mechanical Beasts and Warrior Beasts from a large distance.
- Glacial Beam: Mazinkaiser fires a blast of super-cold energy from the antennae on the sides of his head.
- Kaiser Blade/Kaiser Blade/Final Kaiser Blade: A large sword emerges from Mazinkaiser’s chest emblem. (In other media, it’s referred to as the Final Kaiser Blade or Kaiser Sword to distinguish it from the Shoulder Slicer seen in other OVAs.)
- Shoulder Slicer: A twin set of one-handed swords are ejected from the compartments in Kaiser's shoulders.

Mazinkaiser's cockpit is located in a separate aircraft. The Kaiser Pilder works as agile fighter jet armed wit ha beam weaponry and as Mazinkaiser's control unit. By docking in the center of Mazinkaiser's head, the controls of the Pilder become capable of directing Mazinkaiser instead.

Just like Mazinger Z, Mazinkaiser is unable to fly under his own power. The Kaiser Scrander is an independent aircraft capable of docking with Mazinkaiser to grant him flight ability. Moreover, the Scrander also doubles as an extremely powerful boomerang that can be thrown at enemies.
History[]
Mazinkaiser was secretly created by Juzo Kabuto following his mysterious disappearance. Koji discovered him when the Hover Pilder’s autopilot led him to Juzo’s hidden laboratory after it was forcibly ejected from Mazinger Z during an intense battle with Dr. Hell's Mechanical Beasts.
In the lab, Koji encountered a hologram of his grandfather, who explained that Mazinkaiser was designed to surpass both Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger in power.
Koji boarded Mazinkaiser and returned to the Photon Power Laboratory just in time to save his friends from Ashura Mazinger and a team of Mechanical Beasts. However, Mazinkaiser’s overwhelming power was difficult to control, and after forcing Baron Ashura into retreat, Koji lost control, turning his aggression toward Tetsuya and Great Mazinger. Only through the desperate pleas of Sayaka, Shiro, and Boss did Koji momentarily regain his senses before collapsing and being taken to the infirmary.
For the rest of the series, Koji worked to master Mazinkaiser’s power, using him to defend against Dr. Hell’s forces, Ashura's Mechanical Beasts, and later, the fearsome Ghost Mechanical Beasts.
Final Battle[]
As a swarm of Ghost Mechanical Beasts managed to surround and take the Photon Power Laboratory, the Kaiser managed to fight some of them off before it was thrown into Mt. Fuji turned active by the Mechanical Beasts. With the launch of the Kaiser Scrander, Koji and the Kaiser managed to get out of the volcano alive before going to fight Dr. Hell on the Hell Castle.
Standing in their way was the Hell King Gordon, a gigantic Ghost Mechanical Beast where Baron Ashura had integrated itself into it along with some Iron Masks. The battle proved to be difficult until a hermit appeared on the Kaiser's interface to reveal the hidden power of the Kaiser. With this Koji pulled out the Kaiser Blade which had evened the odds against the King Gorgon and eventually destroy the monstrosity. As Dr. Hell attempts to escape, the Kaiser merely flies back to the Photon Power Lab with the Kaiser Scrander.
Mazinkaiser vs. The Great General of Darkness[]
Mazinkaiser had sustained damage from a previous battle and was undergoing repairs at the Photon Power Laboratory. However, when the Mycenae Empire launched their attack, Mazinkaiser was transferred to the lab’s satellite facility to complete his repairs. The Kaiser Pilder was placed inside Boss Borot, ready for Koji’s return.
After a challenging journey, Koji arrived at the the Photon Power Laboratory in the Boss Borot. He found the place in ruins and an army of Mycenaean Battle Beast waiting for him. That's when Boss informed him of the Kilder Pilder hidden within Boss Borot and the current location of Mazinkaiser: space. Realizing Koji was in standby, Dr. Yumi dropped Mazinkaiser from the satellite towards Earth, urging Koji to get into position to dock.
Koji lined up the Kaiser Pilder with the falling Mazinkaiser while dodging the Mycenaeans' various attempts to stop him. In the end, both the Pilder and Kaiser docked in explosive combination mid-air before the robot came crashing down to the ground. Just as the Mycenaeans began to express their conviction that both Koji and Kaiser were destroyed by the fall, Mazinkaiser emerged from the massive cloud of smoke unleashing his attacks at the Warrior Beast army and the Generals aliked, effortlessly destroying them all.
Suddenly, the Great General of Darkness appeared, dropping the Demonika onto Mazinkaiser. However, Mazinkaiser threw it off and destroyed it with his Scrander Boomerang. A fierce battle ensued between Mazinkaiser and the Great General, ending in a stalemate until Mazinkaiser disarmed the General and pummeled him, finally sending him into a valley where the General’s true face was impaled by his own sword.
With the battle over, Mazinkaiser carried the damaged Great Mazinger back to the Photon Power Laboratory, along the rescued Tetsuya and Jun.
Trivia[]
- The Super Alloy New Zα is different in the anime from the original Super Robot Wars version, as it can't regenerate (or is never seen/implied to do so). On the other hand, the Super Alloy New Zα in the manga was actually damaged and Mazinkaiser's arm got torn off by one of Dr. Hell's mechanical beasts and was never shown to regenerate from it.
- Mazinkaiser has appeared only three times alongside Grendizer, in a 3-episode OVA and two cellphone games Super Robot Wars X-Omega and Super Robot Wars DD.
- Some fans believe that Go Nagai does not want to prove one is superior to the other.
