Jun Hono is the partner and childhood friend of Tetsuya Tsurugi in the Great Mazinger manga by Gosaku Ōta. She is the pilot of the robot Venus A.
Background[]
Jun is the child of an African-American father and a Japanese mother, at some point she was left at an orphanage where she was ridiculed for her ethnicity. Eventually they were adopted by Kenzo Kabuto and were trained to fight against the imminent arrival of the Mycenae Empire.
Growing up, Jun was a minor delinquent, taking parts in brawls and being pulled over by the police alongside other two girls that were her friends.
Appearance[]
Jun has dark skin that she inherited from her father and long black hair. She has an attractive figure that is lean but also well built. Her pilot suit is colored white and red with a helmet that resembles a cowboy hat.
Personality[]
Jun is strong-willed and independent. At one point, she was haunted by her past, feeling ridiculed because of her skin color and the belief that people only valued her as a soldier. However, when lives were at stake, she overcame her fears and rose to the challenge.
Abilities[]
Jun is a decent pilot, able to effectively pilot Venus A. She is fierce in combat, enough that even Tetsuya has problems sparring with her.
History[]
Jun battled alongside Tetsuya for most of the series with Venus A, often taking the most damage. Whatever obstacle, came their way she never parted from Tetsuya such as when the Japanese government created mass-produced Great Mazingers or when the entire Science Fortress Lab was forced to go on the run from Great Marshall of Hell and the government. With help from allies in America, she and Tetsuya managed to make a comeback against Hell. In the final battle, Jun fought against the Generals but with Venus too damaged to move any further she was forced to watch as Tetsuya sacrificed himself to destroy Hell for good. Jun mourned his death in tears.
It is unclear whether Jun survived the apocalyptic events at the end of UFO Robot Grendizer (Ōta) or perished in the disaster, as she does not reappear after the final battle against the Mycenae Empire.

Trivia[]
- Jun's skin color's depicted inconsistently. At the beginning of the manga, her skin tone is the same as the other character, during chapter 3, which is a different interpretation of Great Mazinger Episode 19 - Snow, Take the Color of the Blood of Youth!! she has a darker complexion like her anime counterpart. Later on, it changes a couple of times in the same chapter.
