God Mazinger (ゴッドマジンガー) is anime series that was exhibited in 1984. Despite the title Mazinger being present, this spin-off series has no connection to previous series. Instead it is an original story about a young man who ends up in an alternate reality.

Synopsis[]

Yamato Hino, a normal Japanese school student, is transported to a magical world to defend it. Unbeknownst to him, he is the only person that can bring the lands stone God Mazinger, to life. He does, and becomes the lands only hope against the evil ruler Dorado and his henchmen.

Relationship to other series[]

While God Mazinger has no connection to the other Mazinger series, it is indeed part of the Mazinger franchise as besides the title and the same author as the other series, it is featured in the Mazinger Bible along with other Mazinger manga books that have not been made into anime, such as Mazinger (USA), the adult-oriented MazinSaga and Z Mazinger.

Trivia[]

  • The anime version was originally going to feature 24 episodes but because the planned air date for the 24th episode fell on a day of coverage for the 1984 Olympics, TMS merged the plots of episode 23 and 24 together to hastily give the series a final conclusion.
  • TMS Entertainment's preferred English language title for the series is Space Adventure The Deity[1]
  • This is the only Mazinger anime produced by TMS Entertainment
