Prof. Gennosuke Yumi (弓 弦之助, Yumi Gen'nosuke) is the director of the Photon Power Laboratory and the father of Sayaka Yumi as well as the creator of Mazinger ZIP! and Aphrodite A. Compared to his counterpart, he is a much more self-serving person acting purely on interest.
Appearance[]
Prof. Yumi's appearance is the same as his original counterpart's often wearing a white lab coat and glasses. He has short graying hair, eyes, and a mustache.
Personality[]
Compared to his more mild mannered counterparts, Prof. Yumi is much more selfish and self-serving believing he can get away with something just because of his position as director. This is clearly seen when he left gum on the ground that Mazinger ZIP! got stuck on and some rather meaningless functions on Mazinger and Aphrodite. He is also rather greedy often refusing to pay the damage bill for Mazinger or trying to get cheap components for it. However, he has a soft spot for his daughter Sayaka even if they don't always see eye-to-eye. His affection is rather big and overprotective keeping Sayaka's umbilical cord in a box and giving Sayaka an early curfew of 5:30 PM. Prof. Yumi is also prone to hit Koji or Boss when they try to get close to Sayaka. At times he boards the Hover Pilder with snacks without Koji's consent to deal with protests against the Photon Lab. His favorite food is Beef Stroganoff.
Abilities[]
Prof. Yumi is an accomplished scientist having three PhDs that likely include robotics and energy. He claims to be a former professional wrestler and boxer, using these skills whenever he gets into a fight. Prof. Yumi also carries a stun gun to end a fight quickly. He developed a unique style of karate that utilizes a flamethrower. He developed rifles, bombs, and a rocket launcher that use Setsubun beans for ammunition.
Etymology[]
- The name Gennosuke means "string/bowstring, handle" (弦) (gen), "this" (之) (no) and "help, rescue, assist/assistant/assistance" (助) (suke).
- Gennosuke's surname Yumi means "archery bow" (弓).
Trivia[]
- Prof. Yumi's desk drawer keeps an assortment of items such as a highlighter that was out of ink, a piece of sushi and soy sauce, socks that he lost, and an M-1 Grand Prix 2006 score sheet.
