Duke Fleed (デューク・フリード Dyūku Furīdo) is a minor character in Shin Mazinger ZERO vs. Great General of Darkness. He is the prince of Planet Fleed, Maria Fleed's older brother as well as the pilot of Grendizer.
Background[]
Duke first appears in the world created after the reset of the main timeline of Shin Mazinger ZERO. He has a very similar origin to his TV counterpart, being a alien prince who took refuge on Earth.

History[]
The main point of divergence between Duke and his TV counterpart's lives occurs when the Vegan Empire launches its first attack against Earth. After detecting an alien fleet approaching the planet, Duke flies Grendizer to space to intercept it. However, by the time he arrives, the Vegan army has already been defeated. Great Mazinger and the Great General of Darkness, who had previously been fighting against each other in the moon, formed a truce and annihilated the Vegan army with ease. Realizing his help is not required, Duke returns back to Earth to continue living as an earthling.
Duke arrives with Grendizer to face the Vegan Empire only to realize it has already been destroyed by Great Mazinger and the Great General of Darkness.
Some point after Maria Fleed finds and rescues Koji from the ocean, he meets Duke and the two of them form a friendship.
As it turns out, Koji came clear to Duke the various timelines and Mazinger Z. For the sake of preventing ZERO from awakening, Koji made Duke and Maria promise to not intervene no matter how dire the situation became. He argued that the King of Space being even stronger then Great Mazinger would acelerate ZERO's awakening as the presence of a powerful rival robot is one of the main factors for it to happen.
As such, during the final confrontation against the Emperor of Darkness and the Mycenaeans, the siblings leave Earth on the King of Space. They argue whether or not they should break the promise and intervene, but once they decide on the latter, Minerva X appears to prevent them from going through with it. The timeline is ultimately reseted with them never getting to join Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger in battle.
