Duke Fleed as seen in the Toei version of UFO Robot Grendizer
Born as the crown prince of Planet Fleed, Duke Fleed lived a peaceful life until the ruthless Vegan Empire invaded his home. In a desperate attempt to save his people, Duke stole the powerful super robot, Grendizer, and fled to Earth, crash-landing in Japan. Taken in by Dr. Umon, he adopted the alias "Daisuke Umon" and lived in hiding, concealing his alien heritage while working on a farm.
When the Vega Empire set its sights on Earth, Duke Fleed emerged as humanity’s defender, piloting Grendizer against the alien invaders. As time goes on, Duke forms close bonds with humans, including Koji Kabuto, the pilot of Mazinger Z. Together, they fought the relentless forces of the Vega Empire, protecting Earth from destruction.
As the rightful heir to Fleed, Duke struggled with the responsibility of protecting Earth while longing to return to his home planet. Despite his inner conflict, he remained steadfast, and Grendizer the defender of Earth against the threat posed by the Vega Empire.
