"Death Match!! Revive Our Mazinger Z!!" (デスマッチ！！甦れ我らのマジンガーZ!!. Desumatchi! ! Yomigaere warera no majingā Z! !) is the 92th and final episode of Mazinger Z. This episode first aired in Japan on September 1, 1974.
Summary[]
A celebration occurs at the Photon Power Laboratory following the death of Dr. Hell. Everyone is enjoying the newfound peace. Meanwhile, Archduke Gorgon returns to the Mycenae Empire with urgent news. He attempts to inform the Emperor of Darkness about the weakened state of the Photon Power Laboratory forces and suggests it's the perfect time to strike. The Great General of Darkness initially stands in his way, but Archduke Gorgon manages to convey the message. The Emperor of Darkness overhears and commands the Great General of Darkness to launch an attack.
The Great General of Darkness deploys the first two Battle Beasts: Pilanias and Gratonios, to assault the Photon Power Laboratory. The Battle Beasts wreak havoc as they make their way towards the lab. Meanwhile, Koji, still recovering from his injuries sustained in the final battle against Dr. Hell, is struggling. He remembers that despite Dr.Hell being gone, Archduke Gorgon is still a threat, but Boss tries to lift his spirits. However, their celebrations are interrupted when alarms sound due to an unidentified flying object approaching revealed to be Pilanias and Gratonios.
Koji attempts to pilot Mazinger Z, but Boss stops him, knowing that he's not in any condition to pilot Z. Sayaka and Boss deploy Boss Borot and Diana A to confront Pilanias and Gratonios. However, the two Battle Beasts easily overpower them. Koji eventually wakes up and rushes to the Jet Pilder. Shiro and Misato try to stop him, but Koji takes off and deploys Z.
As Pilanias and Gratonios continue their battle against Diana Aand Boss Borot, Gorgon orders them to focus on destroying Mazinger Z. With the Jet Scrander docked, Mazinger Z heads toward the Battle beasts. As Z arrives, Koji uses Rocket Punch and Missle Punch, but they are ineffective. Sayaka tells Koji that she has done everything she can but it's hopeless and tells Koji to fight with all his might. The situation takes an immediate grim turn as Gratonios manages to shock Koji, causing Mazinger Z to fall down, while Pilanias manages to melt Z's armor. Shiro and the rest of the crew watch in despair, fearing for Koji's life.
As the battle continues, Koji remembers his past battles as an observer watches the fight through a monitor. Ultimately, the Battle Beasts prove victorious, causing Mazinger Z to collapse, with the impact separating the Jet Pilder and rendering Koji unconscious. Gorgon laughs triumphantly and orders the Battle Beasts to attack the Photon Power Laboratory, now that Mazinger Z is defeated.
However, the observer revealed to be Kenzo Kabuto, Koji's father. Kenzo orders Tetsuya Tsurugi to deploy the successor of Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger. Tetsuya pilots the new robot for the first time, heading to the Photon Power Laboratory, with Koji briefly waking up to see Great Mazinger flying by before falling back unconscious. Pilanias and Gratonios begin destroying the Photon Power Laboratory, but Great Mazinger arrives just in time to confront them, easily destroying them. Dr. Yumi watches Great Mazinger fly away, but then Sayaka and Boss return, though heavily injured, but Koji is missing.
Great Mazinger takes back the unconscious Koji for healing. As the others arrive at the Science Fortress Laboratory, Dr. Yumi meets Kenzo, who turns out to be a Cyborg thanks to his father, Juzo Kabuto. Kenzo is revealed to be the creator of Great Mazinger. Sayaka and Koji travel to America. Meanwhile, Tetsuya and Great Mazinger step up as the new protectors in this new war against the Mycenae Empire.
