Count Brocken is a major villain in the Mazinger Z manga by Gosaku Ōta. Compared to his counterpart who had undying loyalty towards Dr. Hell, this version's loyalties faltered over the series.
Background[]
Count Brocken was originally a soldier working for the Nazis during World War II, he committed many atrocious war crimes that Dr. Hell covered up to make Brocken look like a hero. Brocken in exchange would finance Dr. Hell's projects. During a plan to sabotage an enemy, Brocken's plan backfired and he was critically injured. Dr. Hell managed to revive him but his neck could not be repaired and his head remained separated from his body. With the war over, Brocken went under Dr. Hell's services.
Appearance[]
Count Brocken's appearance is identical to his original counterpart including the disembodied head with a monocle and sharper canines.
Personality[]
Count Brocken is a loyal soldier with a lot of pride. Before the current story, he would cover his war crimes to look like a hero with help from Dr. Hell. After a defeat, Brocken would attempt to redeem that failure through means that meant going against Dr. Hell. Much like his original counterpart, Brocken would argue and spout with his coworker Baron Ashura. However after many punishments, humiliating defeats, ridicule, and demeaning orders from Dr. Hell; Brocken finally snapped and vowed to break off all ties to him when the battle with Mazinger Z was over.
Abilities[]
As a former Nazi soldier, Count Brocken had years of military combat and strategy under his belt. However, Brocken always comes up a step behind in the battles against Mazinger Z. Brocken controls a variety of Mechanical Beasts that he uses in his strategies but encounters problems when working together with Baron Ashura.
History[]
Count Brocken was introduced after a few battles with Mazinger Z for more firepower. Like Baron Ashura however, he always came up shorthanded and was often punished by Dr. Hell. At times he and Ashura would work together and managed to make achievements in spite of their rivalry appearing to get in the way. By the final battle against Mazinger Z, Dr. Hell ordered Brocken to attack Mazinger Z in spite of not having any weapons or Mechanical Beasts to fight it with. Brocken obeyed, but after this had enough of Dr. Hell for his harsh treatment and stated that after the battle he would go back to Germany and break off all ties to Dr. Hell. Ultimately, Brocken fell in battle.
